People need help accessing government services

Charles O’Brien

Dear Sir,

Across Bermuda, people want simple answers: What benefits are available to me? Which office should I call? Who can resolve my issue?

The Citizens Reform Group believes every Bermudian deserves clear, accessible communication from their government. That is why we are proposing the Citizen Information and Service Response Office — a single contact point open 8am to 5pm each weekday, supported by modern technology to answer questions, route them to the right ministry, and ensure follow-up.

Members of Parliament and public officers would use CISRO referral cards so that any concern raised in the community becomes part of an accountable process.

Artificial intelligence will help speed replies while creating valuable insight into the issues people face most often — from seniors needing assistance to families seeking housing or health information.

Bermuda deserves clear, effective communication and a full understanding of the services available to its people. We must respond to the real needs within each parish and community — from benefits that support daily living to programmes that strengthen our collective wellbeing.

The Citizens Reform Group has also published a White Paper and Green Paper outlining the proposal and inviting discussion from the public.

This reform is about restoring confidence. When citizens ask, government should answer.
