T20 First Division: Burrows scores century in Cuts win
Willow Cuts captain Ras Solomon Burrows struck the first century of the T20 domestic league season on Saturday.
Burrows scored 100, off 65 balls, as his side beat Flatts Victoria by seven wickets at Somerset Cricket Club.
Cuts were set a stiff task by Flatts, who scored 156 for eight from their 20 overs. Flatts captain Dajon Carey was their top scorer with 35 and he was supported well by Swadesh Gond (28) and Xavier James (23 not out). Micah Simons was the pick of the Cuts bowlers taking four for 16 in his four overs.
In response, opener Burrows always had Cuts above the required run-rate, hitting eight fours and eight sixes in his knock, which came to an end just after he scored his century when he was caught by Carey off the bowling of Angus Betts.
His departure came with Cuts needing just four runs the last ten balls and they took only three to get the requisite runs.
Devonshire Rec chased down Cleveland County’s score of 126 for four with just two balls to spare to win by three wickets at Wellington Oval.
Rec won the toss and elected to bowl but that looked to have backfired when Cleveland openers Jermal Proctor and Q’Shai Darrell put on 79 runs for the first wicket. But Cleveland bowlers kept the run-rate down to give their batters something to chase.
Rec’s reply was marshalled by opener Chris Russell, who finished on 34 not out, with Lorenzo Simmons’s 28 also coming at the right time. Cleveland helped Rec to reach their target, bowling 18 wides.
Tre Manders showed that he is likely to score a ton of runs in the T20 First Division this year, notching 77 from 38 balls as Warwick Workmen’s beat Somerset Bridge by eight wickets at Southampton Oval.
Warwick chased down the 126 for four posted by Bridge in just 11.4 overs. Openers Shawn Riley and Patrick Dill were Bridge’s star performers, scoring 38 and 37 respectively.
