Isaiah O’Brien continued to show that he is a coming force in domestic cricket by hitting a century and taking four wickets as St David’s beat Somerset by 22 runs in the T20 Premier Division on Saturday.

O’Brien scored 106 of the 174 total posted by St David’s, who batted first at Somerset Cricket Club, before ripping through Somerset’s middle order and taking the wickets of captain Dominic Sabir, Jerez Eve, Antonio Darrell and Jade Morrissey.

Somerset had started the run chase well with opener Jan-Johan Nel scoring 73, but they lost seven wickets for ten runs late in their innings, eventually finishing on 152 all out.

A new-look Southampton Rangers got their T20 season off to a fine start when beating Bailey’s Bay by 30 runs at Southampton Oval on Saturday.

A busy winter of transfer activity looks likely to bring about a successful summer and it was two of their new signings who set the platform for victory.

After being put into bat, opener Onias Bascome scored 32 off the first two overs before being caught by Azende Furbert off the bowling of Jordan Burgess. Rawlins (43) and Dion Stovell (51 not out), in at No 4, continued to attack with Rangers posting 193 for six on their return to the top level.

While most expect the fireworks to come from Rangers’ batters this season, their bowlers also showed they possess some bite.

Nyhrobi Carmichael took the key wickets of Terryn Fray (19), Azende Furbert (17) Jordan Burgess (4) and Dennico Hollis (0), returning figures of four for 21 in his four overs.

Bay never looked like threatening the Rangers total, despite decent knocks from Stephen Outerbridge (39) and Domain Usher (46).

Jahquil Hill showed he could make as much of an impact on Bermuda’s pitched during the summer as he does in the winter, top scoring for St George’s in their five-wicket win over PHC at Wellington Oval.

Hill, who plays in goal for Premier Division football champions Dandy Town, scored 33 of his side’s total as St George’s chased down the PHC total of 107 in 15.2 overs.

Ori Wilson (43) had earlier finished PHC’s top scorer, with Jonté Smith taking three for nine in his four overs.
