Rider seriously injured in Sandys collision

A motorcyclist was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle collision late last evening, police said.

The Bermuda Police Service said shortly before midnight, first responders were dispatched to the scene of the collision which involved a livery cycle and a motorcycle on Malabar Road in Sandys, near the junction with Kitchener Road.

A spokeswoman said initial information suggests the vehicles were travelling in opposite directions at the time.

The injured motorcycle rider and the male and female occupants of the livery cycle were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

The livery cycle occupants are believed to be have sustained relatively minor injuries, the spokeswoman said.

Traffic in the area was at a standstill while police worked to clear the scene and investigate the collision.

Witnesses to the collision, or anyone who may have seen either vehicle travelling in the area before the incident were asked to contact police by calling 211 at the earliest opportunity.
