OBA chair steps down
One Bermuda Alliance chair William Soares has stepped down from the role he took up last September.
An OBA statement said Mr Soares had been replaced by Jeremy Shrubb as interim chair.
Mr Soares was elected unopposed as chairman in September at the same time that Robert King was elected party leader. Mr King was ousted in February.
Mr Shrubb was elected as party deputy co-chair at the same conference, along with Opposition Senate Leader Victoria Cunningham.
“I am excited to step forward into this very important role within the One Bermuda Alliance. Our party is committed to listening to and connecting with the people of Bermuda — the first step in addressing the challenges facing our island,” Mr Shrubb said.
Interim party leader Ben Smith added: “Jeremy has been a wonderful addition to the OBA executive and has proven that he is more than able to be our interim chairman. I am looking forward to working with him.”
Former senator Maurice Foley replaced Mr Shrubb as co-deputy chair.
“This appointment is an honour, and I remain committed to strengthening our party, engaging our communities, and helping build a stronger, more united future for Bermuda,” Mr Foley said.
Mr Soares is the president of Arch Reinsurance Ltd in his professional life. Mr Shrubb, a political newcomer when he took office in September, is finance and operations director at ABR Re Ltd.
