Traffic stop leads to the discovery of knife, drugs
A man was arrested early Saturday morning after he allegedly pulled a knife from his pocket after being stopped by officers.
A police spokesman said that at about 1.05am, officers on Parsons Road in Pembroke saw a man on a motorcycle stopped at the junction with St Augustine Road.
The spokesman said: “The officers noticed his helmet was unfastened with the motorcycle’s lights on, engine running and keys in the ignition.
“They approached the rider and informed him, he was being stopped because his helmet was unfastened. He attempted to leave but was prevented from doing so and detained.
“The subject resisted and pulled knife from his left front pocket. The knife was taken away and the bike rider arrested for possession of a bladed article.
“He was further arrested for driving while impaired as he showed signs of intoxication.”
The spokesman said the man was taken to Hamilton Police Station, where a search revealed suspected controlled drugs.
Further checks on his motorcycle revealed that the vehicle was both unlicensed and uninsured.
The spokesman said that the man was still in custody this afternoon and is expected to appear in Magistrates’ Court in the coming days.
