Former Indian Premier League player Fabian Allen is set to feature for Pembroke Panthers in the Bermuda Smash Invitational.

Allen, a left-arm spinner from West Indies, represented Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians in the IPL. The 31-year-old is heading to Bermuda as a replacement for Virandeep Singh, of Malaysia.

Another change for Cal Waldron’s side sees highly rated England bowling all-rounder Jamal Richards brought in for Kelvin Pittman, of West Indies.

Pittman and Singh had been initially drafted by Panthers during the player selection process conducted at Bailey Bay last month.

Shane Hollis, one of the directors of BSI, touched on the reasons for the change in playing personnel ahead of the start of the third edition of the competition at North Field, National Sports Centre, on Saturday.

“The changes come as a result of Pittman being included in the West Indies Test training side due to take on the Sri Lanka touring side,” Hollis told The Royal Gazette.

“Singh became unavailable due to the recently announced Asia Cup qualifiers happening simultaneously as the BSI.”

Allen and Richards join former Namibian captain Gerhard Erasmus as the overseas stars in the Panthers side. The three are expected to combine with the local contingent of captain Dominic Sabir, Charles Trott, Zeko Burgess, Jermal Proctor, Allan Douglas Jr, Brian Hall and Justin Pitcher.

Panthers are in action in the first match of the tournament when they clash with Smith’s Sixers (11am).
