Bermuda?s housing crisis is set to drive yet another family out on the streets this morning.

Yusaff Pitt?s family of three have spent the last seven months so desperate for housing that they scrambled to pay $100 per night to live in a guest accommodation.

His employers contacted yesterday in a last-ditch plea for help as the clock runs out.

The family has been told to vacate the guest house by 11 a.m.

Mr. Pitt, 27, has been living at Windsong Guest Apartments for the last six to seven months with his wife. His wife has spent the last month and a half overseas at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore with her daughter, who suffers from blood clots and was just diagnosed with lupus.

Though the family has struggled to find housing, Mr. Pitt said it has been difficult with work obligations. ?And every time we see something nice we call but they say it?s only one person, or you can?t have a car. It?s always that one little something.?

The Bermuda Housing Corporation has not been the solution, he said. ?I?ve been talking to those people since before I moved in (to Windsong),? he said. ?They say there?re hundreds of people on the waiting list.?

Real estate agencies have said they will get back to him if something comes up.

His employers, local firm Disc Ltd., have also made calls on his behalf.

?We?re very worried about him,? manager Alison Aitken said. ?He?s a fantastic employee, we don?t want to see harm come to him. We?re trying to go the mile for him.

?But landlords don?t want to hear it, especially if you have kids or are a local. We?re pretty disgusted ? and very concerned for him.?

Forced to seek guest house accommodation, Mr. Pitt said it had been a struggle to come up with the $700 per week to stay at Windsong.

Then, on Saturday, he said Windsong management told him that as summer approached everyone?s rates would be increasing ? meaning he would have to start shelling out $130 per night. ?That?s clearly impossible,? he said.

Convinced the rent would keep increasing until he was forced out, Mr. Pitt was horrified to wake up that night to find the place full of smoke thanks to some faulty electrical wiring.

Nothing was on fire, but the rooms were damaged from the smoke.

The fire was enough for the Windsong management to order him out however.

?She tore into me,? Mr. Pitt said. ?She ?f?ed? me off, she hadn?t even called an electrician.?

Announcing she had another party booked into the rooms by June 5, Mr. Pitt said management gave him until 11 a.m. today to vacate the apartments.

He and his wife are unable to stay with relatives, though her daughter is able to stay with family.

Mr. Pitt said he does not want to be apart from his wife any longer than he has to. ?If we have to sleep in our car until we find somewhere we?ll do it. Sometimes you have to swallow your pride. I?m a married man. I have a decent job, I make good money. Everybody?s worried.?

Management at Windsong Guest Apartments did not return a call from yesterday.
