The Bermuda men’s rugby team will be hoping to end their international season the way they started when they face Atlantic Privateers at Flora Duffy Stadium today (3pm).

Bermuda started their busy programme with a 9-5 victory over Guyana in Georgetown on April 25. From there, they faced tough opponents on home turf, as they took on Cayman Islands and USA South, where results did not go their way.

Privateers showed that they could be tougher opponents for Brian Archibald’s side by securing a 53-34 victory over USA South on Tuesday night.

Hadleigh Tucker, one of the outstanding players in the match against USA South, is looking on the positive side of the matches they have played.

“The fixtures we have been able to play the last couple weeks and the one coming up have been a net positive for Bermuda rugby,” Tucker said.

“To be able to get an organised and physical opposition has been invaluable for the development of our squad.

“I’m looking forward to finishing off the series and hopefully putting up some points against the Privateers who have shown that they are here to play, after their win against USA South.”

With the fifteens season over, sevens will be taking over as Bermuda start preparing for the Central American and Caribbean Games, scheduled for July 24 to August 8, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

“The sevens programme will be kicking off our training in preparation for the CAC Games after this last fifteens fixture.

“Although the playing style and game fitness is quite different from fifteens to sevens, it is still encouraging for the sevens guys to be able to play 80 minutes of high-level rugby as a starting point for the CAC Games preparation.”
