Inflation rises to 2.9 percent

Higher car and bike licence fees have been blamed for a rise in inflation.It rose from 2.8 percent in March to 2.9 percent in April. Rises in comprehensive vehicle insurance were also factors sparking rising prices according to the Consumer Price Index, released yesterday.

Pump prices also increased with premium costing 3.1 percent more and mixed fuel costing three percent more.

There was a two percent rise in cigarette prices while rent went up 0.3 percent.

Groceries showing large rises were onions (8.5 percent), cucumbers (7.7 percent) and grapes (six percent).
