Trial set for OBA candidate who denies assaulting police officers
A One Bermuda Alliance candidate accused of fighting police during an incident at a hotel will face trial in Magistrates’ Court.
John Seymour, 42, pleaded not guilty in February to two counts of assaulting the officers as they executed their duties, as well as violently resisting arrest.
The charges were tied to an alleged incident at Cambridge Beaches in Sandys on February 14.
Mr Seymour, from Pembroke, submitted his defence statement yesterday, which outlined his arguments against the charges he faces.
Magistrate Auralee Cassidy set the trial for September 16 and adjourned the case until then.
She extended his $10,000 bail, which included staying away from witnesses and Cambridge Beaches.
Mr Seymour was a candidate for the OBA in Pembroke East Central during the 2025 General Election.
He won 47 votes and came third in a three-way race against the Progressive Labour Party’s Michael Weeks, who won with 443 votes, and the Free Democratic Movement’s Shermaine Riley-Murphy, who gained 53 votes.
