A new phone application will provide up-to-date climate data directly from the Bermuda Weather Service.

Squalls.app, developed by Bermudian Adam Cooper, includes BWS public and marine forecasts, the local radar, tide times and UV Index, but is not affiliated with the service.

Mr Cooper explained: “I built squalls.app because I wanted a weather app that works for Bermuda.

“Most weather apps, like Apple and Google, rely on global models that don’t account for microclimates, we have that in Bermuda.”

Mr Cooper worked at Google for 12 years and squalls.app, which went online on May 6, is the first app he has developed.

He said: “When I announced the app on Facebook, I was overwhelmed by the positive response. People have been crying out for an app like this.

“The core feature I think is the radar, that’s why a lot of people visit weather.bm, now they can access it on this app.”

Mr Cooper would love to hear users’ thoughts on the app, which can be viewed online via squalls.app and is available on the Apple app store.

Android users can save the app to their home screen and a version will be released on Google Play Store in the coming weeks.
