Ministry of Justice confirms threat on Westgate prison
Police have been notified in the wake of a “threatening telephone call” relating to Westgate staff came in yesterday at the correctional facility.
The Ministry of Justice said the incident was being treated with “the utmost seriousness” and was “immediately reported to the Bermuda Police Service”.
A spokesman added: “A formal statement has also been provided to assist with the police investigation.
“In response to the incident, appropriate precautionary measures have been put in place at the facility.”
The threatening call was said to involve “the safety of staff at the facility”.
The Department of Corrections said the safety and wellbeing of its officers, staff, inmates and “all persons at the facility remains a priority”.
No further details were given as the matter is now under police investigation.
