The City Hall area in Hamilton was the site of confusion this afternoon after traffic control outages and damage to a parking barrier.

Traffic lights went dark at the junction of Queen Street and Church Street, as well as the City Hall pedestrian crossing by the bus terminal.

Crews assessing the problem were redirected to an unrelated incident after a vehicle struck a camera system and barrier gate at the City Hall parking lot.

A City spokeswoman said: “Our technicians are currently working to assess and resolve the issue.

“We expect to know more shortly and we apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

She added: “In the meantime, the City has a staff member on site at the junction directing traffic to assist with traffic flow and pedestrian safety while repairs are under way.”
