Let’s pave our roads regularly

Potholes: South Road, Paget, in March (Photograph by Akil Simmons)

Dear Sir,

I must put pen to paper again.

1, Why aren’t Harbour Road, Middle Road and South Shore Road paved in their entirety once every three years? Not patchwork. Where are all the licensing fees for taxis, trucks, private cars going every year? These funds should be used to pave roads.

2, Why doesn’t the Government use land tax funds to do mandatory purchases of these derelict buildings and residential units around the Island? Use these structures for the elderly and the homeless.

3, By giving St George’s Cricket Club and Somerset Cricket Club $50,000 every year for Cup Match we are opening a can of worms. Where is the money for Bermuda Fitted Dinghies, Bermuda Darts Association, the Bermuda Snooker Association or tennis? These sports are important to Bermuda as well, and most are self-sufficient.

Somerset Cricket Club and St George’s Cricket Club should be self-sufficient, too. Where are the monies from vendors’ fees and entrance fees during Cup Match going? Does the Government ask for an audit of where the $50,000 is being spent each year?

Accountability.
