A 28-year-old man was arrested on Saturday night after a concealed knife was found on his person during a traffic stop.

A police spokesman said that at about 10.45pm on Saturday, officers were on mobile patrol in the area of Frog Lane, Devonshire, when they saw a motorcycle travelling south at high speed.

They followed the vehicle, which sped onto Montpelier Road and turned west on Middle Road.

Officers activated their emergency equipment, but the rider failed to stop and instead went the wrong way down Lane Hill, before coming to a stop on East Broadway.

A search of the rider revealed a knife hidden in his waistband. He was arrested for dangerous driving and carrying an offensive weapon in public.

The spokesman said that hours later, at about 3.30am on Sunday, police arrested a 22-year-old man after he was found to be driving on Crow Lane, Pembroke, without a licence to operate a car. He also had an outstanding warrant.

The spokesman added: “Members of the public are once again reminded heightened high visibility policing efforts remain in effect in all parishes.

“With the upcoming Bermuda Carnival festivities commencing on Wednesday of this week, please be prepared for delays.”
