A schooner used as a training vessel by the French Navy made a stop in Bermuda this week.

The Belle Poule, which translates as “Beautiful Hen”, called on the island in 2009 during tall-ship races.

Built in 1932 as a replica of a cod-fishing vessel, the 38-metre schooner has a sister ship, the Étoile, or “Star”. It has a crew of 25.

The ship’s last port of call was Funchal in Madeira. Next on its list, according to Bermuda Maritime Operations, is Norfolk, Virginia.
