Meyer and BEST Group announce amalgamation
A major amalgamation has been announced between The Meyer Group of Companies and the BEST Group of Companies, a Bermuda-based logistics, shipping, and supply chain conglomerate.
Meyer is Bermuda's most experienced and comprehensive port agency with operations that include ship, freight and shore excursion agencies, property development and forensic accounting services.
A Meyer statement said the BEST Group will become part of the Meyer Group, subject to formal approval, marking a significant step in the continued evolution, succession planning, and long-term sustainability of Meyer’s 150 years.
The statement said: “The relationship between the two organisations has developed over several years through successful collaborations, including the joint venture QRS and operational partnerships during the Covid period, where BEST Group demonstrated exceptional service and support during a premium cruise ship home porting operation in Bermuda.
“Governance collaboration further strengthened the relationship, with Jo Vieira joining the Meyer Group board and Cheryl Hayward-Chew joining the BEST Group board.
“Through these interactions, both organisations developed strong mutual respect, alignment in values, and a shared commitment to customer service, operational excellence, and long-term sustainability.
“Both Meyer Group and BEST Group are recognised leaders within their respective industries, having achieved that leadership by prioritising the needs of customers and working closely with industry partners to deliver value and service excellence.”
“This is a thoughtful and strategic step forward,” said Ms Hayward-Chew, who continues as Meyer Group CEO. “As we celebrate our 150-year milestone, it is essential that we continue to evolve in a way that ensures long-term sustainability.
“Joe Vieira and BEST bring strong leadership, energy, and growth potential, which complements Meyer’s established foundation.”
Mr Vieira added: “Joining Meyer Group represents an exciting opportunity for BEST. This allows us to continue building on what we have established, while benefiting from the stability, structure, and long-term vision that Meyer provides.”
QRS specialises in dumpster and storage pod rental services on the island.
A phased transition is planned spanning the next five years that will see Mr Vieira assume the role of Meyer Group CEO. In the meantime, BEST Group will continue to operate as its own entity.
The statement said: “The intention is not to combine operations for the sake of change, but rather to leverage the strengths, expertise, and capabilities of both organisations to better support employees, customers, stakeholders, and Bermuda’s broader economy.
“Importantly, both organisations will continue to operate with their distinct cultures and strengths, while identifying opportunities for collaboration and synergy over time.”
The strategic integration will be formally presented at Meyer’s annual meeting this month.
