HSBC has appointed Paul Shaw as chief information officer for Bermuda, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, succeeding Errol Boyes-Varley, who is retiring after 31 years with the bank.

Mr Shaw will oversee the delivery and execution of technology services across the three jurisdictions and support the bank's innovation, digital capabilities and resilience.

He joined HSBC in 1996 and has held a range of business and technology positions in the United Kingdom, the Middle East and Jersey. Most recently, he served as chief technology officer for data technology across the Middle East, North Africa, Turkey and Europe, based in Dubai.

Mr Shaw said he was excited to take on the role, adding: “The opportunity in Bermuda, the Channel Islands and Isle of Man for technology to deliver a material benefit to the business and our customers is significant.”

Gregory Garnier, chief executive of HSBC Bermuda, said technology and artificial intelligence were increasingly central to modern banking, from customer service to fraud prevention and risk management.

“In Bermuda, we're focused on building even greater cybersecurity and operational resilience, enhancing our digital capabilities and meeting evolving local regulatory requirements,” Mr Garnier said. “Paul's leadership will be key as we invest in innovation, data and engineering.”
