Lewis Moody, the ex-England rugby captain, provided some inspiration to the island’s emerging sporting talent when he visited the Warwick Academy under-15 cricket team yesterday.

Moody, who won the Rugby World Cup in 2003 and appeared at the 2007 tournament before leading England at the 2011 competition in New Zealand, met the youngsters during a recent visit to Bermuda.

“Former England rugby captain Lewis Moody paid a special visit to Warwick Academy, sharing valuable insights on leadership, resilience, teamwork and performing under pressure,” Warwick Academy said.

“Our players are still buzzing afterwards from this memorable opportunity to learn from one of sport’s great leaders.”

Moody last October revealed that motor neurone disease had been diagnosed after experiencing a persistent weakness in his shoulder.

Bermuda holds a special place for the 48-year-old, as he and his wife Anne had their wedding ceremony on the island in 2006.

The former England flanker established ties with Bermuda when he served as a coaching consultant and mentor for the island men’s team ahead of their 2012 Rugby Americas North Caribbean Championship final. With Moody’s assistance, Bermuda defeated Guyana 18-0 at home.
