Health minister warns about ‘organic’ products
A public health alert was issued as the health ministry warned about the potential side effects of several sexual performance products known to be sold in Bermuda.
Testing at the government laboratory was said to have confirmed that four products marketed towards men experiencing erectile dysfunction contain one or more prescription-only drugs that were not listed on their labels.
A ministry spokeswoman reported that the products were Butterfield’s 100% Organic Men’s All Night Pill, Butterfield’s 100% Organic Men's Black Leopard Male Enhancer Honey, Butterfield’s 100% Organic Feel Good Electrifying Gummies and Butterfield’s 100% Electrifying Royal Energy Honey.
Kim Wilson, the Minister of Health, said: “These products are being marketed as natural remedies but they contain undisclosed prescription‑only drugs that can cause serious harm, especially for people with underlying conditions or those taking other medications.”
She urged anyone who purchased the products to immediately stop using them and speak with their doctor if they experienced side effects such as sudden loss of vision, prolonged or painful erections, serious allergic reactions, severe hypotension and chest pains.
Other possible side effects include a heart attack or irregular heartbeat, a stroke, a sudden loss of hearing or ringing in ears and other potentially adverse health effects.
Ms Wilson warned: “If you still have these products at home, please take them to a pharmacy for safe disposal.”
Environmental health officers continue to monitor the matter and members of the public were urged to be cautious when purchasing products that claim to treat erectile dysfunction or enhance sexual performance, especially those marketed as “natural” or “herbal” remedies.
Other items labelled “Royal Honey” were also found to be adulterated, the health alert said.
