Cancer charities deserve our support

Providing a service: oncologist Chris Fosker, chief executive of the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre (File photograph)

Dear Sir,

This Island, our home, our paradise, is fortunate for many, many reasons. But we are especially blessed to have two organisations — Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre and Pals. Those who have need for their services and treatments know first hand how much this means.

The fact that BCHC is able to provide radiation treatment in Bermuda has been a huge advantage — not only from a cost and insurance perspective, but the fact that patients have the comfort of home and family — a benefit above and beyond while going through what can be a very difficult time in their lives. Chris Fosker and his team are all to be praised to the highest.

The other amazing organisation here is Pals. When you hear the word Pals, it's hard not to associate it with end-of-life. They provide so much more and are there to help cancer patients — and their family members — through their journey in so many ways and keep their glasses half-full.

Bermuda is indeed blessed to have such incredible groups of people as those I have mentioned above. They both deserve all the support we can give them.
