Bailey’s Bay handed visiting Somerset a 67-run defeat in a Premier Division 50 overs contest at Sea Breeze Oval on Sunday.

The hosts scored 161 all out in 47.3 overs after electing to take first strike, with Kyle Hodsoll scoring a sedate 30 from 61 balls that included two boundaries.

Wicketkeeper Jahnoi Bean was next best with 26, Coolidge Durham added 25 while there were 18 extras, including 14 wides.

Captain Terryn Fray (18), Jaiden Manders (15), Jordan Burgess (14 not out) and Tai Cariah (10) were the remaining Bay batters in double figures.

Somerset player-coach Janeiro Tucker (three for 14) and JJ Nel (three for 20) claimed six wickets between them, while Callum Macintosh took two for 40 for the visitors.

Somerset might have fancied their chances of reaching their target in reply but were ultimately dismissed for 94 in 30 overs, with wicketkeeper Amari Ebbin (27), Antonio Darrell (14) and Tucker (10) the only batters in double figures.

Dennico Hollis (three for 20) and Michael Agard (three for 30) also bagged six wickets between them for Bay.

Bay’s victory capped a successful weekend after they dethroned Cleveland County in the opening round of the Eastern Counties at Lord’s to regain the coveted trophy the previous day.

Elsewhere, Southampton Rangers beat St George’s by 42 runs in a high-scoring affair at Southampton Oval while the remaining Premier Division 50 overs contest between St David’s and Warwick at Lord’s was not played as a result of a lack of umpires.

In First Division 50 overs action, PHC beat Somerset Bridge by five wickets in a high-scoring affair at PHC Field.

Bridge posted 240 all out in 41.5 overs after electing to bat with captain Adrian Burrows scoring 64. Jason Smith chipped in with 46 and Joshua Gilbert 42. Samir Tavares-Place (17) and Shawn Riley (10) were the remaining Bridge batters in double figures while there were 38 extras, including 36 wides.

PHC captain Charles Trott (four for 42) and Jahmari Beach (four for 46) claimed eight wickets between them.

Davin Dill led the chase with 64, Trott stroked 59, Ori Wilson 31 not out and Omari Deshield 30 as PHC replied with 241 for five in 46 overs.

Gilbert was Bridge’s most successful bowler with three for 58 while Makai Jacobs took two for 49.

The remaining First Division 50 overs encounter saw Flatts beat Devonshire Rec by four wickets at Devonshire Recreation Club.

The hosts scored 184 all out in 35.5 overs after being sent to bat, with Freeman Lema (39), Jahzardae Samuels (38) and PJ Thomas (27) and Shakai Trott (13) reaching double figures.

Jamin Furbert (three for 36) and Treadwell Gibbons Jr (three for 38) led the Flatts bowling.

The visitors replied with 186 for six in 28 overs, with captain Kijuan Franks leading the way with 67. Gibbons added 57, Shane Robinson 25 and wicketkeeper Temiko Wilson 16. Samuels led the Devonshire attack with two for 51.
