Police investigate confirmed Smith’s firearms incident

Police have launched an investigation after confirming a firearms incident took place in Smith’s on Sunday evening.

A spokesman for the Bermuda Police Service said officers were called to the area of Broken Hill Road and Broken Hill Lane at about 10.45pm after receiving reports of multiple gunshots.

Police conducted a search and discovered evidence confirming that a firearm had been discharged in the area.

Officers contacted the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital but staff revealed no one arrived seeking medical treatment.

A police spokesman confirm an investigation has now been opened.

He added: “We are asking that residents in the area between the junctions of Harrington Sound Road and Knapton Hill and Harrington Sound Road and Paynters Road, with CCTV cameras or other image capturing devices facing the roadway, please check for recordings of any suspicious activity that may have been captured shortly before and after 10:45pm when the gunshots were first reported and make contact with us.”

Anyone with information was urged to call 211, the main police number, 295-0011 or the independent and anonymous Crime Stoppers number 800-8477.

Witnesses can also provide information through the online police reporting portal.
