Kaden Hopkins wins opening stage of Tour of Guadeloupe

Kaden Hopkins in yellow jersey at Tour of Guadeloupe last year

Kaden Hopkins put the disappointment of finishing fourth at the Central American and Caribbean Games behind him with a fantastic ride to win the opening prologue at the Tour de Guadeloupe on Friday.

Hopkins was one of only two riders to average more than 50km/h in the 11.9km time-trial, stopping the clock at 14min 3.75sec, giving him the stage victory by less than a second from Bogdan Zelenisky, a rider from Cyprus.

Victory for Hopkins means he will be wearing the yellow jersey for the first race stage on Saturday.

Hopkins is not the only Bermudian riding the tour with Nicholas Narraway finishing a good fifth in 14:24.42.

A few days earlier Hopkins and Narraway had both finished in the top six in the time-trial at the CAC Games, heralding their good form.

The Tour of Guadeloupe consists of nine stages over more than 1,000 kilometres with a mix of flat and mountainous race days.
