A Bermuda-flagged tanker ship carrying natural gas out of the Middle Eastern Strait of Hormuz has been struck by a missile, The Royal Gazette can share.

The ship, Gaslog Shanghai LNG, suffered damage to its engine room and was rendered inoperable of the coast of Oman, according to several newsreports.

It is not known who conducted the attack and, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations, no injuries or casualties have been reported.

Gaslog Shanghai LNG picked up a shipment of liquid natural gas from Qatar on July 27, but reported being struck about 12.7 miles northeast of Oman on Friday, at about 11.30pm local time.

The strike came as a war continued between Iran, which controls the Strait of Hormuz, and Israeli and US military forces.

Iran, which was backed by the Lebanese group Hezbollah and the Yemeni group Houthis, has threatened the safety of ships crossing the strait and particularly its US-controlled southern corridor.

Among the recent attacks was a tanker waving a Liberian flag, which reported narrowly missing a missile on July 25.

The Ministry of National Security and the Department of Marine and Ports have been contacted for comment.
