All welcome at post-Emancipation Day celebration
Members of the community have been invited to join a post-Emancipation Day celebration on Wednesday evening at Horseshoe Bay Live.
The gathering, which is being hosted by Team Hayward — supporting the bid of Jason Hayward to become the leader of the Progressive Labour Party — is to provide an opportunity for people to come together “in the spirit of unity, fellowship, and reflection as Bermuda commemorates one of the most significant periods in its history”.
Team Hayward said that Emancipation Day is a time to honour the courage and resilience of those who endured enslavement and fought for freedom, while recognising the responsibility of each generation to continue advancing equality, opportunity and justice for all Bermudians.
Mr Hayward, who is the Minister of Economy and Labour, said: “Our emancipation story is one of strength, perseverance and hope.
“As we celebrate the sacrifices and achievements of those who came before us, we are reminded that the work of building a fairer, stronger and more prosperous Bermuda continues.
“This celebration is an opportunity for us to come together as one community, connect with one another and recommit ourselves to shaping the future our people deserve.”
An evening of conversation, music and community fellowship is planned with free food and refreshments, the organisers said.
The open event will run from 6pm to 9pm. In the case of rain, the venue will be Ocean View Golf Club.
