Former Bermuda coach Michael Findlay is back in football with a new role in the Caribbean.

Findlay has been appointed head coach of St Vincent & The Grenadines and will be in charge for their first match in the Concacaf Nations League against French Guiana next month.

St Vincent are ranked 170th in the Fifa World rankings, with Bermuda three places higher at 167, five months after Findlay left his role as coach of the national team after three years in the job.

During his tenure Bermuda played 26 games, winning nine, drawing four and losing 13.

Those wins came against Belize and Findlay’s new side St Vincent and the Grenadines in the Nations League in 2023; Brunei in the Fifa Series in March 2024; Antigua & Barbuda (twice) and Dominica (twice) in the 2024 Nations League and Cayman Islands and Cuba in World Cup qualifying last year.

Bermuda made it to the final stages of World Cup qualifying, picking up a sole point against Trinidad & Tobago, who were coached by Dwight Yorke, in a group also containing Curacao and the Steve McClaren-led Jamaica. Yorke and McClaren left their jobs after failing to qualify.

An announcement is expected soon by the Bermuda Football Association as to who replaces Findlay with just over a month until the first Nations League match.

John Barry Nusum is believed to be the front-runner for the role after taking charge of the team for two friendlies against Democratic Republic of Congo and Cape Verde in the build-up to the World Cup.

Under Nusum an inexperienced squad lost 2-0 to DR Congo and 3-0 to Cape Verde, with both teams going on to shock some big names at the World Cup.

DR Congo drew 1-1 with Portugal in the group stages and came close to stunning England in the knockout stages, losing 2-1.

Cape Verde were one of the big stories of the tournament. After drawing 0-0 in their opening match against eventual champions Spain, they lost 3-2 to finalists Argentina in the round of 32 in arguably the best game of the competition.

The role of Bermuda’s senior women’s coach is also open after Naquita Robinson stepped down. The BFA has received more than 150 applications for the position and is beginning the process of narrowing down the field.
