John Barry Nusum has been appointed head coach of the Bermuda senior men’s football team.

Nusum, who served as an assistant coach under Michael Findlay, was announced as the new man in charge by the Bermuda Football Association on Thursday.

“It is an honour to be entrusted with leading Bermuda’s senior men national team,” Nusum said.

“Having worked with many of these players already, I am excited about the opportunity ahead. Together, we will continue to build a culture of pride, commitment and ambition as we represent Bermuda on the international stage.”

In announcing Nusum’s appointment, the BFA stated that his elevation ensures a smooth transition within the team.

“The Bermuda Football Association is pleased to announce the appointment of John Barry Nusum as head coach of the Bermuda senior men’s national team,” the BFA said.

“Nusum assumes the role following his service as a member of the previous senior men's coaching staff, ensuring continuity within the national team programme while bringing a clear vision for its continued development.

“A respected figure in Bermudian football, Nusum has played a significant role in the progression of the country’s young talent.

“Most recently, he guided Bermuda's squad to success at the Island Games, demonstrating his ability to develop players, foster a winning culture and prepare athletes for the demands of international competition.

“His familiarity with the current player pool and strong relationships with the nation’s emerging talent provide a solid foundation as Bermuda prepares for its upcoming international competitions.”

Mark Wade, the BFA president, expressed confidence in the 45-year-old to motivate the national players.

“John Barry Nusum has consistently demonstrated his commitment to Bermudian football and the development of our players,” Wade said.

“We are confident that his leadership, passion and knowledge of the game will inspire the Gombey Warriors as we begin this exciting new chapter.”

Nusum’s appointment comes as Bermuda prepare to face Guadeloupe, St Lucia and Barbados in the Concacaf Nations League group D, starting next month. The Gombey Warriors start off at home against Guadeloupe on September 25, before they clash with St Lucia away three days later.
