Bermuda came from a set down to stun champions St Lucia 3-2 at the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association Championships in British Virgin Islands on Wednesday night.

In a thrilling five-set encounter, Gary LeBlanc’s side triumphed 18-25, 25-14, 25-21, 13-25, 15-10.

Having lost to St Lucia twice in the final, Bermuda captain Natalie Gazzard commended the collective hard work put in by the team to achieve the victory.

“We’ve met St Lucia twice in the final now, so we knew coming into it would be a challenging game,” Gazzard said.

“But I’m really proud of my team. We really dug deep, our hitter did great and our setter really ran the court, I think overall, we really dominated.

“It’s definitely been a process. Over the summer, we’ve been training really hard and you just got to have a ‘nothing touches the ground’ mindset, and I think we really followed through with that.”

The Bermuda women will be searching for another victory when they play Dominica today.

Meanwhile, the men started off with a 3-1 loss to Dominica on Wednesday. They face the host nation at 6pm Bermuda time in their second group encounter today.
