Johnny Bart has given his showing at this week’s Canadian Junior Boys Championship the thumbs up.

The Saltus Grammar School student finished tied for 30th with a two-over 290, competing among a formidable 155-strong field.

“It was a good week and experience,” Bart told The Royal Gazette.

“I hope my performance shows the level of my game.”

The 17-year-old golfer battled his way to an impressive one-over 73 in trying conditions in the final round of the 72-hole tournament at Wascana Country Club in Regina, Saskatchewan, today.

Starting his round on the back nine in cool and windy conditions, Bart was two-under with two holes to play before carding back-to-back bogeys to make the turn at even par.

He carded a third successive bogey at No 10 and another at No 15 to go to two-over before sinking a third birdie of the day to sign off at one -over.

“Today was a battle, the wind and cold was hard really made me take time over my shots,” the promising golfer said.

“I got off to a hot start which settled me in nicely. I’m happy with my day; one-over is solid in those conditions.”

Bart thrust himself in early contention with a three-under 69, which included four birdies, during the opening round and followed up with an even-par 72 in the second to finish well inside of the cut.

A four-over 76 in the penultimate round left the teenager tied for 37th at one-over before a battling display in the final round vaulted him seven places up the leaderboard.

Bart has already enjoyed success on the international scene this year, having finished tied for second in an 18-hole Ontario Men’s Amateur Championship qualifier at Wildfire Golf Club in June.

At last check Canadians Michael Vivone and Tiger Xie were tied for the lead at 16-under with four holes left to play at the Canadian Junior Boys Championship.
