Police have announced the dismissal from the service of David Bhagwan, an inspector, who is facing criminal charges.

Darrin Simons, the Commissioner of Police, said Mr Bhagwan had been dismissed after a special case hearing held today.

He added: “As there is an ongoing court prosecution connected with this matter, no further comment can be made at this time.”

Mr Bhagwan, from Pembroke, appeared last month in Magistrates’ Court on a series of charges including an allegation of financial exploitation of a senior.

He was accused of obtaining a 2025 Kia Picanto between an unknown date and June 8 this year, with the intention of permanently depriving a man of it.

A second charge alleged that on or about June 8, he made a false instrument with the intention of inducing the Transport Control Department to accept it as genuine.

He faced a third count that on June 8 he allegedly used a false instrument with the intention of inducing the TCD to accept it as genuine.

Both TCD-related offences were alleged to have been committed with the intention of resulting in an act of prejudice against an alleged victim.

A fourth charge alleged that between an unknown date and July 10 this year, Mr Bhagwan abused a senior by means of financial exploitation.

He was not required to enter a plea to the charges because the case will be dealt with in the Supreme Court and is due to return to court next month.
