The Bermuda Hospitals Board has announced that its hyperbaric chamber has been taken out of use over a burst pipe at the hospital.

A BHB spokeswoman said: “Unfortunately, the chamber was impacted when a pipe burst in the basement of the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital’s general wing over the weekend.

“The hyperbaric chamber is closed until inspections render it safe to use again.”

Staffing issues forced the chamber, used to treat diving-related injuries, soft tissue infections and other ailments, to close last February, August and from December 11 until January 29.

However, at the time of its January reopening, the BHB said it was finalising the training of additional attendants to address the staffing challenge.
