A motorist is expected to appear before the courts after being arrested for driving dangerously and whilst disqualified.

Police said it came as officers issued 87 tickets for traffic violations, most for speeding.

A spokesman said officers on mobile patrol along St David’s Road in St George’s stopped a motorcycle yesterday at about 4.15pm.

While talking to the rider, police saw that the expiration date on the vehicle’s licence plate had been altered.

When they notified the rider, he sped off westward, overtaking cars at high speeds before being intercepted on St Mark’s Road in Smith’s.

A further check showed that the rider had been disqualified from driving all vehicles until 2027.

The spokesman said the rider was expected before the courts “soon”.

He added that officers issued an additional 28 speeding tickets yesterday.

The highest speed recorded, 78km/h, was more than twice the 35km/h legal limit.

Police handed out a further 24 tickets for disobeying traffic signs, 22 tickets for not wearing a seatbelt, eight tickets for using a handheld device on the roads, four tickets for having illegal tints and one ticket for not having a driver’s licence.
