SFL extends charters for six vessels
SFL Corp has extended the charters for six container vessels with Hapag-Lloyd AG for another seven years, adding about $750 million to its fixed-rate charter backlog.
The Bermudian-based shipping company said the 15,400 twenty-foot equivalent unit vessels will now be covered by firm-rate charters until 2035 and 2036.
The extensions lift SFL’s fixed-rate charter backlog to approximately $4.6 billion. The company said it has added more than $1 billion to that backlog during 2026.
Ole Hjertaker, chief executive of SFL Management AS, said the agreements strengthened the company’s long-term relationship with Hapag-Lloyd, which it described as the world’s fifth-largest container line.
He said: “The charter extensions demonstrate the value of our high-quality operational platform, which continues to enable us to cultivate durable relationships with industry-leading counterparties.”
SFL, which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange, said the contracts are due to a strong container shipping market and would support earnings and the company’s aim for long-term distributing of profit to shareholders.
