A Bermudian singer impressed judges and fans when he performed on the British version of the hit singing competition The Voice.

Dakari Love’s rendition of No Time To Die by Billie Eilish propelled him to the next round of the contest.

Entertainment icon Sir Tom Jones, a judge on the show, was particularly impressed with the blind audition performance by Dakari, whose real name is Nkosi Hollis.

The performance — which spanned about a minute and a half — impressed the audience, who applauded as the singer belted out the chorus to the hit — the theme song of the 2021 James Bond film with the same name.

On Instagram, Dakari said “I still can’t believe this actually happened”.

He added: “I was so nervous, which was quite obvious in the vocals, but I pulled myself together and kept going.

“So proud of myself for being resilient and seeing it through. Still feels like a dream. Thank you God.”

Dakari told The Royal Gazette today that he was still emotional, adding that he was happy to advance his talent as a musician.

He said: “I am filled with a lot of emotions and l think my nerves got the best of me within the performance.

“It was a long day filming and anticipation and preparing, it was a mixture of emotions that I don’t think I will ever forget … it was for the good.

“I definitely think it shaped me and I would definitely not forget this moment and I’m so proud of it.”

Dakari said he was also thankful for the supportive comments he received from Sir Tom.

“I remember him telling me that he’s never heard a voice like mine and he felt it, it was more of a feeling than him hearing it and I really appreciate it coming from a legend like Sir Tom Jones,” he added.

“Just being on the show alone is a big step, it’s a huge deal,” Dakari noted.

Under his Instagram post, supporters showered the performer with praise.

One said: “So amazing. We are all so proud of you.”

Another wrote: “This is a beautiful presentation in every way.

“The nerves just mean you want it. And what you want shall be ours, you beautiful human.”

Singer Aalai asked: “Anyone else in here crying!?”

Dakari said he was humbled by the support he received from Bermuda.

He said: “To my people, thank you so much.

“The outpouring of love has been tremendously overwhelming but I am loving it, I am appreciative of it.

“One thing about our people is that we stand strong behind our people, we have to.

“We are resilient and strong and I kind of show that in my performance as well — how resilient Bermudians are.

“I love my people.”

In the next round of the contest, Dakari will compete with another singer to try to progress on the show.

The battle episodes are predicted to air on about October 3 and 10.
