The Government has provided almost $130,000 of additional funding to eight organisations that offer programmes of benefit to the community.

Seven organisations received $12,500 in funding this week through the Confiscated Assets Fund to assist with programmes spanning youth, family support, health, sport, technology and community development.

Among the groups to benefit were Care Computer Services, the Coalition for the Protection of Children, the Bermuda Heart Foundation, Raleigh International Bermuda, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, the Western Stars Sports Club and Wolves Football Club.

Meanwhile, the Bermuda Heritage Museum, in St George’s, received a combined $40,000 from the Department of Culture and the Cabinet Office to support its work preserving and sharing Bermuda’s history.

David Burt, the Premier, said: “Community organisations are cornerstones of our society.

“Through grants from the Confiscated Assets Fund, the Government is taking the proceeds of criminal activity and redirecting them into programmes that serve and strengthen our community.

“Alongside these grants, we are supporting the Bermuda Heritage Museum and its work to preserve and share Bermuda’s history.”

Owen Darrell, the Minister of Tourism, Transport, Culture and Sport, said investments in community groups translated to investments in Bermuda’s people.

He added: “These organisations are creating opportunities for our young people, supporting families, encouraging healthier lifestyles and helping to preserve our history and culture.”
