The Whitney Institute Middle School has hailed the dedication of its students and staff as it celebrated its 2025-26 I/GCSE cohort.

The school’s board of governors said students achieved an 89 per cent pass rate in English and an 88 per cent pass rate in maths, reflecting “the dedication of both students and staff, and the collaborative effort of the school’s English and mathematics teaching teams throughout the year”.

It called the results a sign of what its students could achieve when given the opportunity to reach beyond the standard curriculum.

In English, Emily Foster-Skelton earned an A grade, while Annabelle Nelson and Trayonah Maina each earned a B.

In maths, students achieved C grades across the board — the highest grade obtainable on the Core tier paper.

Six students achieved IGCSE qualifications in both English and maths.

They include Jasim Amarali Pexioto, Ms Foster-Skelton, Ms Maina, Ms Nelson, Ethan Proverbs and Shilo Mello.

In addition, four students earned an IGCSE qualification in one subject.

For maths, the list includes Megan Furtado and Chelsea Kate Sta Maria while Amarriah Vaughans and Abihanna Weir attained the qualification for English.

The school highlighted the “noteworthy” performance of Mr Mello, who sat and achieved his maths IGCSE three years ahead of schedule while in M2, before going on to sit and achieve his English IGCSE this year alongside his Year 9 classmates, two years ahead of schedule.

It called his performance “a testament to what is possible when a student’s readiness is identified and nurtured ahead of schedule”.

The Whitney Institute said teachers provided targeted in-class support along with before and after-school tutorials through the academic year.

The students completed two full mock examination sittings, gaining valuable practice under exam conditions and the chance to identify areas for improvement.

The school highlighted that pupils, who were carefully selected based on readiness, had less than a calendar year to prepare, and sat their examinations two years ahead of their counterparts at The Berkeley Institute’s testing centre.

Staff were praised, including Reeshemah Swan, the principal, Toni Holder and Helen Paynter, who prepared students for the English exam.

In maths, credit went to teachers Shane Pinder and Keshia Henry for dedication both in and out of the classroom.
