Boater taken to hospital after hitting reef

A boater was rescued after suffering facial injuries when he crashed into a reef.

The victim, a 63-year-old Pembroke man, was hurt in the incident near Castle Island, St George’s, on Thursday, at about 8.30pm.

A police officer and a member of the public rushed to the scene in separate vessels and provided first aid after hearing a plea for assistance from the Maritime Operations Centre.

Police said the rescuers were met at a dock by Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service and ambulance staff, who provided medical care before he was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

The victim was said to be in stable condition on a general ward yesterday.

Witnesses should call police on 295-0011.
