Somerset Trojans 1 Dandy Town Hornets 3

Dandy Town Hornets won their second game in a row courtesy of a David Jones Jr brace as they defeated Somerset Trojans 3-1 at Devonshire Rec last night.

Town had dominated possession from the opening whistle and would sound an early warning when the lively Zachary Hannay hit a firm drive which ricocheted off the upright before falling into Trojans’ goalkeeper Barrington Tyson-Gooden’s arms.

Seconds later, Blair Hall fed Hannay who would cut inside from the right to unleash a curling shot which goalkeeper Tyson-Gooden did well to push over the top.

The Trojans were playing second fiddle but nearly scored just before the half when Jadon Simmons’ goalbound shot was blocked for a corner.

Despite Town’s dominance, the match was scoreless at the half.

Town took the deserved lead within seven minutes of the restart when Hall got onto the end of a long ball before squaring to captain Tomiko Goater who neatly slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

The Trojans equalised within minutes when Town goalkeeper Jaiden Manders mishandled Kamani McNeil’s inswinging corner with the ball fumbling over the line.

Minutes later, the Trojans’ custodian kept his team in the match diving full length to push a firm drive against the crossbar.

Last season’s top goal scorer David Jones Jr would do what he does best and delivered when Town needed him most. After a long ball forward, the prolific striker held off his marker before picking his spot in the bottom corner beyond the Trojans’ shot-stopper.

Jones would close out the scoring ten minutes from time as he picked up a loose ball to toe-poke home and secure the points.

“I took a while to get into my game tonight,” stated the talisman Jones. “I’m glad I was able to come through when it counted the most. I just took my time and placed both shots in the corner.”
