The Salvation Army continued its 130th anniversary of serving the island with a ‘beautiful’ march in Hamilton yesterday.

A spokesman said the event, which started on the corner of Front Street and Court Street, went as planned.

“We had a beautiful march, we are very thankful to all who supported,” he said.

He noted the support of the Royal Bermuda Regiment at the event which culminated at the North Street Citadel.

Along the way, members stopped to visit longtime member Gwenolyn Doars, who will celebrate her 100th birthday on November 9.

The church-based charity began operations in Bermuda in 1896, providing food and shelter along with community outreach and addiction counselling.

Last week, Commissioner Lee Graves, who oversees The Salvation Army Bermuda and Canada Territories with his wife Commissioner Debbie Graves, noted how Hamilton has been crucial to this legacy.

He said: “Through our shelters, food banks, addiction programmes and places of worship, we continue to stand alongside [the city’s] leadership to live out a vision ensuring that the vulnerable are never invisible.
