Long Sunday lunch was quite simply a fabulous experience

There is something particularly lovely about a long Sunday lunch.

Nowhere to rush off to. No need to watch the clock. Just good food, a couple of drinks and a few hours at the table before Monday inevitably comes around again.

That is exactly what I found at Lina restaurant at The St Regis Bermuda Resort, which recently launched its new offering, The Sunday Table.

I went with my sister on Sunday and, quite simply, it was fabulous.

The concept is straightforward: a three-course lunch served every Sunday from noon until 3pm for $65 per person, plus gratuity. There are three choices for each course, making it feel generous without giving you a menu so large you spend half of lunch trying to decide what to eat.

For starters, the choices are apple salad, shrimp cocktail or a poke bowl. I went for the apple salad and it immediately felt like the right way to welcome autumn in Bermuda.

Grilled apple was served with peppery arugula, cranberries and walnuts, with whipped mascarpone and feta bringing this gorgeous creaminess to the plate. A balsamic maple dressing pulled everything together.

It was one of those salads where every component mattered. The sweetness of the grilled apple against the arugula, the creamy cheese, the crunch of the walnuts and that slightly sweet dressing made for a really beautiful combination.

For the main course, the choices are Ocean Harvest, avocado on toast or lamb Milanese. I chose the Ocean Harvest: pan-seared snapper fillet with green beans, peewee potatoes and meunière sauce.

This is my kind of fish plate. The snapper was beautifully cooked and well seasoned, while the potatoes had been crushed and fried, giving them those crispy edges that make potatoes infinitely better. The meunière sauce, with capers running through it, brought richness and acidity to the plate without overwhelming the fish.

It was simple in the way that really good food often is. Nothing needed to be added and nothing needed to be taken away. I could happily order it again.

By dessert, I wasn't exactly hungry, but that was hardly going to stop me. The three options are Coffee Time, Warm Apple Pie and Vanilla Mousse, and I chose the apple pie.

Thankfully, it arrived in exactly the right size after two courses. Rather than a traditional pie with a heavy crust, it had a softer, almost cake-like texture, with caramelised apples and served with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream.

Of course, going to lunch with my sister also meant her dessert was technically available for research purposes.

She ordered Coffee Time, a dark chocolate tartlet with cappuccino filling and coffee ice cream, and it was outstanding. Rich, deeply chocolatey and full of coffee flavour, it may have caused a tiny bit of dessert envy.

We ended lunch with espresso martinis — tequila for hers, vodka and a tiny splash of Baileys for mine — and honestly, I can't think of a much better way to close out a weekend.

And of course, the setting helped.

We sat inside Lina, but floor-to-ceiling glass keeps the beach and ocean firmly in view. It gives you all the beauty of a waterfront Sunday lunch while sitting comfortably indoors, and the whole experience feels relaxed rather than overly formal.

The service throughout was excellent, but what I liked most was the pace of the afternoon. The Sunday Table isn't something you need to squeeze into your day. It feels like something you make the day around.

At $65 for three courses, I also think it represents excellent value, particularly for the quality of the food and the setting. Drinks are additional, so your final bill will obviously depend on what you order.

Would I go again? Absolutely.

Sunday lunch should be leisurely. It should involve food you genuinely want to eat, a beautiful setting, good conversation and, when the mood calls for it, an espresso martini before you reluctantly admit the weekend is almost over.
