Hundreds for PartnerRe Women’s 5K Run
More than 500 female athletes have registered for the PartnerRe Women’s 5K Run and Walk tomorrow morning.
As of yesterday evening, 516 participants had signed up for the day’s events, which start and finish at Botanical Gardens. Competitors will take part in the 5K run, with prizes on offer for the top three finishers in the 15-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70+ age groups.
With Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby champion Maddie Durkin off island, Stepanka Sprincova, Christine Dailey and Kristen Robinson head into the race as favourites for the overall title.
The seasoned runners will face stiff competition from Naomi MacGuinness, who became the youngest winner of the race as a 12-year-old last year.
Junior competitors are set to battle for podium spots in the 2K run, with prizes for the 7-10 and 11-14 age groups.
There will be rewards for the top three finishers in the 5K competitive walk, where running is not permitted.
A prize is to be awarded for strong school involvement, based on the highest percentage of students from a school taking part in the 2K and 5K.
Funds are also being raised for the Bermuda Education Network, with $4,610 of $15,000 target collected as of Friday.
Meanwhile, in another event taking place tomorrow morning, the Bermuda Bicycle Association Presidents Cup Road Race returns for its thirteenth edition.
Riders will take on a 54-mile course across Bermuda, starting from No 1 Car Park on Front Street at 7.30am.
In the men’s race, Conor White, who won his third title a year ago, Nicholas Pilgrim, Alexander Miller, Dominique Mayho and Matt Boys are among the strong contenders for the title, while the women's competition features Panzy Olander and Annabelle Miller.
Dylan Eiselt, Jonah MacGuinness and Jasper Lau could be set for an intriguing battle in the junior men’s contest.
“The race is open to BBA members aged 15 and over, with adult and junior categories,” the association said.
“Entry is $30 for adults and $15 for juniors. Pre-registration closes at 6pm on Saturday and there will be no late entries.”
