Nahki Wells is delighted to be back among the goals after getting on the scoresheet in Luton Town’s big away win over Wycombe Wanderers in Sky Bet League One at the weekend.

Wells, who played twice for Bermuda in the Concacaf Nations League during the recent four-game international break, scored Luton’s third goal, his sixth of the season, in a 4-1 win at Adams Park.

“I’m happy to have got on the scoresheet and felt that I could’ve had another one or two,” the 36-year-old told The Royal Gazette.

“I had a lot of constant threat on that back line and thankfully one of them just fell perfectly, so I was delighted. I also got a cheeky assist from a simple pass, which always helps statistically.”

Wells is delighted to have made the most of his opportunity after returning to Jack Wilshere’s starting XI.

“I was happy to be back in the starting line-up after not starting the last two league games,” he said.

“It’s really good to get back and get among the goals and try and have another rebuild and put a good run together.”

Above all, the experienced player was thrilled to see the Hatters get back to winning ways after a two-game losing streak.

“It was a really good day all-round and most important was us getting the win that we really needed after a poor run of league form and not having won in our last three,” he said.

“It was a really solid performance. We started off on the front foot and never allowed Wycombe to have any chances, really. We were solid and thoroughly deserved the three points.

“It was unfortunate to concede a goal at the end, but that’s a small negative that we can dissect as a group and go on to next week.”

The result leaves Luton thirteenth in the League One standings on 11 points, three points off the play-off places and eight points behind leaders Plymouth Argyle.

While pleased to come away with the points, Wells emphasised the need for his team not to get carried away by the result, as there is still work to be done as the side continue their push for promotion to the Championship.

“We can’t get too ahead of ourselves,” he said. “It’s about trying to build, have consistency and bring an element to us that’s hard to beat, which hasn’t been the case for us this season.”

Luton are back in action on Saturday away to Milton Keynes Dons, who are second from bottom without a win in eight league outings.
