Hamilton’s shops are to battle it out this Christmas for the best-decorated windows.

Shop displays are set for a festive makeover as the city launches the latest Window Decorating Competition.

The annual competition invites businesses across Hamilton to pull out all the stops and transform their store fronts into eye-catching Christmas displays of colour, creativity and a little friendly competition throughout the holiday season.

Participating businesses will be competing for both the title of Best Christmas Window 2026 and the People’s Choice Award, along with a range of prizes.

The contest also aims to encourage foot traffic and support economic activity in Hamilton.

Talisa McGlashan, city marketing co-ordinator, said: “We’re always amazed by the effort that goes into the displays, and we’re looking forward to seeing what businesses have in store for us this year.”

Each participating business may enter only one window in the contest.

Prizes include a $1,000 Belco gift voucher, a $1,000 donation to the charity of the winner’s choice and a video advertisement — all for the Best Christmas Window selected by retailers.

The People’s Choice winner, voted by the public, is to receive a $500 Masters gift certificate and $500 donation to the deserving cause of their choice.

Decorating must be completed by 5pm on December 1 and remain in place at least until December 16.

Public voting and judging runs from December 4 to 14, with winners announced on December 15.
