Impact: eight people sustained injuries (Image supplied)

Eight people were taken to hospital with injuries after a truck crashed into the back of a stationary bus on Somerset Road shortly before 9am on Tuesday.

One of those hurt, a 68-year-old man, was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit. At last check, he was in stable condition.

All of those injured, men and women ranging in age from 30 to 83, were passengers aboard the service, understood to be heading towards Hamilton, which had stopped next to Sound View Road in Sandys.

A truck driver, also travelling on Somerset Road, ran into the back of the stopped bus, damaging both vehicles.

The Bermuda Police Service said it appears the 37-year-old male truck driver and the 56-year-old female bus driver escaped injury.

A police spokesman said emergency medical personnel provided initial treatment on site.

He added: “Traffic in the immediate area was disrupted for approximately three hours, while police processed the collision scene.

“As part of this investigation, area CCTV footage has been reviewed.”
