Marable leaves OBA to become independent
A former One Bermuda Alliance deputy chairman and election candidate has announced he plans to run as an independent.
Joseph Marable, operator of the Crawl Hill Tigermarket, thanked the party for the experience he had gained and the support he had received through his involvement. He was approved as its candidate for Hamilton West (Constituency 6) in 2023.
However, Mr Marable said he had become “increasingly concerned about divisions created by partisan politics” and believed political disagreements overshadowed the “practical needs of the people we are elected, or aspire, to serve”.
Mr Marable said the decision to run as an independent was rooted in the belief that he could best serve Hamilton Parish and Bermuda by remaining “focused on people, practical solutions, and meaningful results, without the constraints of party affiliation”.
This news came weeks after Robert King, the former OBA leader and sitting MP for Constituency 10, also left the party and became an independent MP.
Mr Marable unsuccessfully challenged Wayne Furbert, the sitting Progressive Labour Party MP, in Hamilton West during the 2025 General Election, earning 237 votes to Mr Furbert’s 480.
He said: “As I begin this new chapter, my door remains open, my commitment remains strong and my focus remains firmly on the people of Hamilton Parish and Bermuda.
“I look forward to reconnecting with residents, listening to their concerns, and sharing initiatives that I believe can bring meaningful and lasting benefits to our communities.”
