Four Bermuda young cricketers have been selected to feature in a Future Stars Under-23 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting T10 exhibition match between the Caribbean and Wider Commonwealth in Antigua on Sunday.

Isaiah O'Brien, Keegan Jones, Sa-Qui Robinson and Zerai Tomlinson, who all represented Bermuda at the ICC Under-19 World Cup Americas Qualifier in Rydal, Georgia last year, will showcase their talents at the iconic Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium.

O’Brien, Jones and Tomlinson are student-athletes balancing high-performance cricket with studies overseas, while Robinson is employed locally while looking to further his education in the near future.

Staged alongside the CHOGM proceedings under the theme “One Commonwealth, One Team,” the exhibition will showcase elite youth talent from member nations, celebrating sportsmanship, cultural exchange and sporting excellence.

Before the future stars take centre stage, heads of government from across the Commonwealth will put their cricket skills on display.

West Indies great Sir Vivian Richards takes on the role of honorary manager for the Caribbean side, with ex-England captain David Gower at the helm of the Wider Commonwealth for the world leaders contest.

According to the Bermuda Cricket Board, the quartet’s selection stems directly from the strategic memorandum of understanding initiated by BCB president Lloyd Smith in partnership with Cricket West Indies.

“The agreement has already delivered high-performance technical benefits to Bermuda, having initially enabled the secondment of former West Indies Test coach Andre Coley as an international high-performance cricket consultant,” the BCB said.

“The ongoing operational execution of this MOU follows regular quarterly strategy sessions between BCB executive director Cal Blankendal and CWI director of cricket Miles Bascombe, designed to establish consistent, high-value regional pathways for Bermudian cricket personnel.”

The BCB said the strategic alignment highlights its continuous efforts to expand international exposure for players, coaches and officials through the following:

• Overseas playing opportunities: Securing invitations to regional fixtures and high-performance showcases like the CHOGM U23 event to build international match experience.

• Elite coaching & technical consultancy: Leveraging the MOU to integrate top-tier regional expertise, such as Andre Coley’s high-performance consultancy into national team structures.

• Domestic workshops & development programmes: Hosting localised coaching clinics, umpiring seminars and scoring workshops led by regional and international experts.

• Structured talent pathways: Ensuring seamless transitions for athlete progression from grass roots youth squads into elite senior representation.”

Blankendal shared his delight at seeing the board’s programmes continuing to develop talented cricketers who stand out on and off the field.

“Our national youth development initiatives continue to produce exceptional individuals who excel both academically and athletically,” he said.

“Seeing Isaiah, Keegan, Sa-Qui, and Zerai transition from our U19 squad to an international stage in Antigua is a proud moment for Bermudian cricket.

“The BCB remains dedicated to identifying overseas fixtures, local workshops, and development programmes empower our players, coaches and officials to excel on the world stage.”
