Government announces hands-on hotel industry course
The Government has announced an immersive training programme to offer employment opportunities in the hotel industry.
The Hospitality Immersion Programme, created by the Department of Workforce Development and Bermuda College, will put applicants through an 11-week training course where people can cut their teeth in different positions within hospitality.
The programme will go beyond front of house to look at fields such as business management and maintenance.
Jason Hayward, the Minister of Economy and Labour, said: “This programme will give participants valuable insight into the industry, help them develop essential workplace skills and connect them with hotel employers and hospitality professionals.
“It is an opportunity to explore a career path while preparing for future employment.”
The programme will touch on traditional roles as well as opportunities such as sales and marketing, human resources and training and development.
It starts December 7 and will combine a week of in-person work readiness training with ten weeks of hotel placements.
The pilot cohort will involve ten participants, all of whom will receive a certification upon successfully completing the course by February 19.
The programme is open to Bermudians and spouses of Bermudians between 18 and 30 years old.
Applicants must be unemployed, underemployed or interested a hospitality career.
Applications open today and close November 20. An information session will be held this Thursday at 6pm at the Department of Workforce Development Training Room at Bermuda College’s Paget campus.
Participants will continue to receive support from the Department of Workforce Development as they try to secure employment.
Those interested in applying can do so online through the DWD website.
