Peter Stubbings has been appointed chief executive officer of reinsurance at independent specialist re/insurance broker Miller.

The firm also announced that Gary Masters will become chairman of reinsurance.

The appointments follow the business’s expansion after the acquisitions of Miller Bruzon, AHJ Miller and Shields Miller.

Mr Stubbings brings more than four decades of reinsurance and leadership experience, broad technical expertise and longstanding client relationships across London, Bermuda, the Caribbean and the Nordics.

He joined Miller in May 2026 as chairman of Miller Bermuda, where the firm said he had been “instrumental” in building Miller’s Bermuda reinsurance and retrocession business.

Miller added that as chairman, Mr Masters will continue to help shape the strategic direction of the business, working closely with Mr Stubbings to ensure continuity and a seamless handover.

The company added that its new leadership structure marks the next phase in Miller’s reinsurance growth, as the firm continues to establish a global, specialism-led reinsurance business.

“The focus will be on further bringing together Miller’s established capabilities alongside recent acquisitions which have deepened its treaty expertise and extended its geographical footprint into the Nordics, Caribbean, North America and the MENA region,” Miller said in a statement.

James Hands, CEO of Miller, said: “We have built real momentum in reinsurance, with significant progress in our teams, capabilities and international footprint.

“Peter’s appointment as CEO of reinsurance, alongside Gary’s transition to chairman, gives us a strong leadership partnership for this next chapter.

“Peter brings exceptional market experience, technical depth and client relationships and I am also delighted that we will continue to benefit from Gary’s experience and strategic insight as chairman, having made a significant contribution to the development and growth of Miller’s reinsurance business since joining Miller through the AHJ acquisition.”

Mr Stubbings said: “The opportunity ahead is incredibly exciting. We have an exceptionally strong platform for the future, built on talented people, technical expertise and deep client relationships.

“My focus now is on building on that foundation to help serve clients even more effectively in a complex risk environment, working closely with colleagues across both our reinsurance and insurance teams at Miller.”

Both appointments are subject to regulatory approval.
